Sabbath Keeping
Eventually we are confronted with the question, which day is
our day of worship?
We believe that our worship is to do His Work in Spirit and in
Truth, rather than focusing on a particular day of the week. If
you are a Sabbath keeper, fine. But I hope that you are not doing
it because your salvation is hinged upon what day of the week
you are going to sit down and do nothing!
God created the heavens and the earth in six days and on the
seventh day He rested. Yet, at John 5:16-17, Jesus claims God is
still working: "For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and
sought to kill him because he had done these things on the
sabbath. But Jesus answered them, My Father has been working
until now, and I have been working."
God does not sleep on the Sabbath. He is still working. When
Jesus heals on the Sabbath, He is doing God's work. God's work is
not limited to a five or six day work week. We are no longer
bound to a cyclic seven-day week. God's work continues whenever
there are souls in need.
One greater than the Sabbath is here! Yes, sending Jesus as
flesh and blood to earth was a greater work than creation! In six
days God created the heavens and the earth. On the seventh day He
rested. And on the Eighth Day Jesus Christ appeared upon the
earth: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, hear
ye him," (Matthew 17:5). If we recognize and obey Jesus, we will
have recognized and obeyed God. This is the true worship of the
Father.
